Before
- Exfoliate. Exfoliate. Exfoliate.
We cannot over-stress the importance of pre-session exfoliation. 24 hours prior to your appointment. This helps to clear away any dry or dead skin cells. Pay particular attention to your hands, elbows, knees and feet as these are places more apt to over-develop. - AVOID using bar soaps, high pH shower products, oils, oil-based, alcohol-based, or in shower moisturizers. These products can neutralize the DHA bronzing reaction within the skin.
- On hair removal, any depilatory creams, waxing or shaving should be completed 24-hours prior to your session.
- Don’t create sunless barriers, avoid applying anything to the skin that may act as a barrier between the sunless solution and the skin. Deep penetration of the solution is key to beautiful lasting color.
- AVOID wearing perfumes, deodorant, lotions or creams that can create a barrier for absorption, prior to session.
- Remove any make-up prior to the sunless application.
- Arrive prepared by wearing loose fitting dark colored clothing, remove jewelry and bring flip flops or sandals to wear after your session. Tight clothing can rub or smear bronzers, especially around the knees, elbows, chest and waist. Spray solution can stain fabrics.
- AVOID sweating/exercising until after your first shower
- You should refrain from showering as long as possible (up to 24-hours). As with all DHA products, sunless color begins showing development approx. 4-hours after application and continues to darken for up to 24-hours. If you must shower during the 8 to 24-hours following the application, WARM WATER RINSE ONLY. The use of soap can inhibit the full development of DHA color.
- When showering after 24-hours, use only a mild shower gel. Refrain from using scrubs or high pH soaps and body washes that contain harsh soaps, exfoliants or oils, as these will strip away your sunless color. We recommend using soaps that are especially formulated to extend the life of your tan — like a daily body wash. Dove products ARE NOT recommended.
- You may see color wash off during your first shower which is normal, as it is just the cosmetic bronzer washing off.
- Avoid using pore strips, bandages and exfoliants (until you’re ready to spray again.
- Moisturizing is the key to making your tan last longer. Right after you get out of the shower, lock in moisture with an oil-free moisturizer. Moisturize in the morning and evening. From day 3 on, use a Tan Extender as your primary moisturizer. Beware: Drugstore lotions may contain oils and other ingredients that can shorten the life of your spray tan.
- IF YOU SLEEP WITH YOUR TAN STILL DEVELOPING: it is crucial to sleep in a long sleeve shirt and long pants that are loose fitting clothing after your tan. If you do not do this, you run the risk of too much smudging or having the tan absorb into your hands or other parts of your body incorrectly
- Pools and spas that utilize chlorine can cause fading. We suggest avoiding entirely, if possible
- When in sun, a spray tan does NOT protect your skin from the sun…so make sure you use sunscreen!
